Upcoming Auditions
Auditions for John Patrick’s “A Bad Year for Tomatoes” will be held on Sunday, December 7 and Monday, December 8 at 6:30pm at the Playhouse, 11920 Lebanon Road with Preston Alexander Raymer directing.
This John Patrick comedy is about a famous television actress who seeks “to get away from it all” to write her autobiography in a small rural village and the misfortunes that befall her while attempting to remain anonymous.
Please prepare a short one minute comedic monologue (it doesn’t have to be memorized). The director just wants to see how you handle your own chosen material. Additionally, please bring a headshot and resume, if available, or send in advance to auditions@playhouse615.com.
Callbacks will be in-person and by invitation only.
Seeking actors for the following roles:
◦ Myra Marlowe: A retired, famous TV actress who moves to a small town to write her autobiography but invents a fake, "mad" sister, Sadie, to get some peace and quiet.
◦ Tom Lamont: Myra's agent and friend who tries to convince her to return to her Hollywood career. He is also in love with her.
◦ Cora Gump: One of the "Hospitality Ladies" who, along with her friend Reba, frequently visits Myra to gossip and ask nosy questions.
◦ Reba Harper: The other "Hospitality Lady" who is just as nosy and gossipy as Cora.
◦ Piney: A tall, bearded, and gruff woodcutter, handyman, and skunk hunter who is a constant presence in the town.
Willa Mae Wilcox: A local resident whose husband Myra accidentally cursed. She becomes a catalyst in the play's events after the "sister" character is introduced.
◦ The Sheriff: A stern and suspicious local law enforcement official who becomes involved when Myra's charade escalates.
If you are unable to make auditions, please send a video-taped monologue before the date of the first audition, December 7. Video submissions will not be accepted if they are not date-stamped by December 7. Please send video submissions to auditions@playhouse615.
