The Little Foxes features the avaricious Hubbard family, dominated by the scheming Regina Giddens, driven by wealth, and her equally greedy brothers, Ben and Oscar. They clash with Regina's sickly, honest husband, Horace, who opposes their plan to build a cotton mill, and are contrasted by the aristocratic but meek Birdie, Oscar's wife, and the hopeful, moral daughter, Alexandra, who sees her family's corruption. The younger generation, Oscar's weak, unprincipled son Leo, further fuels the family's deceit.
